Climbing team
Name and surname:

Simone Moro

Domicile:

Bergamo, Italy

First climbing experience:

It was when I was twelve in the area of Cornagera (close to Bergamo).

Favourite climbing area:

Cornalba for the rock climbing, the Himalayas and Karakoram for expeditions.

Leisure time:

I spend my leisure time with my wife and daughter or I attend to my obligations as a professional alpinist (cooperation with fifteen sponsors, writing books and articles, collecting information on unknown climbing areas and ascents, responding to questions from my fans, preparation of slide shows, films and pictures). I also study foreign languages.

Training day:

I am used to climbing on rocks, artificial wall or ice (depending on the season) every day. I run 15 – 18 km per day or ride a bicycle 2000 km per month.

Motivation:

I find pleasure in this. After all, happiness is the greatest richness in our lives. I am absolutely satisfied with my life, and I am only 38.

Toughest experience in the mountains:

Winter first ascent of Shisha Pangma in the year 2005 and first ascent by the north wall of Baruntse North in the year 2004.

Idol:

I do not have any hero, but I admire my father, Messner and Manol.

Opinion on the current mountain climbing scene:

I think that above all, high alpinists do not have any imagination. They only dream of defeating all fourteen 8000-meter mountains – best by using the “quick classic climbing style”, so that it is not that difficult. Rock climbers want to get over more and more difficult routes (9a,9a+,9b,9b+). It is all about numbers, difficulty… This is the real reason why the media don’t care that much about alpinism. Climbers speak only about their sports results and the training, but they do not create stories, messages – simply something intelligible and comprehensible to the wider public.

Motto:

Never stop dreaming, never….

Plans for the future:

Traverse Everest – Lhotse, first ascent of unclimbed Batura II, 7762 m.
And what is more, I would like to belong to the small group of people who climb 8b+ on rocks, M9 (now M10+) on ice and who climb the most difficult and the highest hills on our planet. Furthermore, I would like to speak five languages.

Chat about myself:

I am a dreamer, always happy and well disposed. This is the real reason why I am getting on well in my life.

Simone is simply a star in his native Italy. He belongs to the small group of people who live for climbing, and accordingly his life looks like training, training, training, lectures, meetings, meetings… and in between all these things, of course, his family. Simone lives in Bergamo, so he is not hard up for sports activities – like a true Italian, he rides his bicycle, and of course he climbs – any time and anywhere.
