Tendon Rope Cleaneris a highly effective detergent for the safe and thorough washing of ropes in washing machines as well as by hand. It does not damage the rope in any way and in addition – the rope is clean, ages more slowly and is easier to use after washing and proper drying. Rope is a textile product and fortunately it is possible to wash it when it gets dirty.
BY HAND OR IN A WASHING MACHINE?Hand washing is not as intensive as machine washing – the washing machine cleans the rope more effectively without changing the rope qualities significantly. Polyamid has one unwished-for property, namely the capacity to absorb water. Water is able to soak deep into the intermolecular structures, and water completely destroys bonds between individual molecules which provides strength in dry condition. Only a 5% increase in rope weight due to moisture leads to greater than a 30% reduction of the number of falls!
WATER TEMPERATUREThe temperature of water used for rope washing purposes must be 40 °C maximum, not more – polyamid like every other textile fibre has a tendency to shrink and shrinking reduces both the rope strength and the number of falls.
COMMON WASHING POWDER OR TENDON ROPE CLEANER?Common washing powder is not suitable for washing of mountaineering ropes at all. An ideal product for both hand washing and machine washing is the special TENDON ROPE CLEANER which has been developed for the thorough and safe washing of ropes. After a thorough washing and drying of the rope there will be no changes in rope parameters.
DRYING OF WASHED ROPEThe rope should be left to dry always in a dry and dark place which is shielded from direct sunshine and contains no source of radiant heat. The duration of drying is very important. A rope, even if it seems dry, still contains a great quantity of water. The residual volume of water may reduce strength of the rope by up to 30%.
